About
Emily Kotecki is the founder and principal of High Beam Strategies. She brings over a dozen years of experience working with institutions ranging from Microsoft and the Smithsonian Institution to city art museums and regional history centers.
She derives immense joy from helping museums elevate their programs, engage audiences, and celebrate their impact on the world. To share proven practices more widely, she published a free, downloadable workbook called The Distance Learning Workbook: A Launch Guide for Museums with an accompanying podcast on her show, Museum Buzz.
As an adjunct professor at Bank Street College of Education teaching digital learning and a regular speaker at conferences worldwide, Emily brings both academic insight and practical experience to her work. She holds a master’s degree in museum education from The George Washington University and a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism from American University. She currently lives in Raleigh with her husband and two children.
For fun, ask her about interning at The Daily Show, sprint triathlons, and being a granola bar enthusiast.
Why High Beam?
When I was a kid, my dad endearingly called me a high beam - enthusiastic, energetic, and optimistic. He always owned his own company so I saw how his hard work translated to a successful business. He passed away in 2014 after a long fight with a rare neurological disease. When I incorporated my business, it felt natural to name my company in honor of him and the confidence he always had in me.
